Maple Popcorn

Ingredients
Serves 4 to 6

  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • 2 tbsp vegetable or canola oil
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • A pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings:
  • 1/4 cup roasted pecans or almonds
  • A pinch of cinnamon
  • A few chocolate chips

Preparation

  1. Place a large pot with a lid over hot embers, avoiding direct flames.
  2. Add the oil and 2 or 3 popcorn kernels. Once they pop, add the remaining kernels.
  3. Cover and shake the pot regularly until the popping slows down. Remove from the heat immediately.
  4. In the same pot, melt the butter. Add the maple syrup and simmer gently for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Pour the popcorn into a large bowl or a clean paper bag. Drizzle with the maple mixture, add a pinch of salt and mix quickly to coat all the popcorn.
  6. For extra-crispy popcorn, spread it on a sheet of aluminum foil and place it near the embers for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring once.
  7. Add your favourite toppings and enjoy!
