Ingredients
Serves 4 to 6
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- 2 tbsp vegetable or canola oil
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 tbsp butter
- A pinch of salt
- Optional toppings:
- 1/4 cup roasted pecans or almonds
- A pinch of cinnamon
- A few chocolate chips
Preparation
- Place a large pot with a lid over hot embers, avoiding direct flames.
- Add the oil and 2 or 3 popcorn kernels. Once they pop, add the remaining kernels.
- Cover and shake the pot regularly until the popping slows down. Remove from the heat immediately.
- In the same pot, melt the butter. Add the maple syrup and simmer gently for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Pour the popcorn into a large bowl or a clean paper bag. Drizzle with the maple mixture, add a pinch of salt and mix quickly to coat all the popcorn.
- For extra-crispy popcorn, spread it on a sheet of aluminum foil and place it near the embers for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring once.
- Add your favourite toppings and enjoy!
